Many of the Gruenhagens who lived in Napa, California were members of St. John's Lutheran Church and attended St. John's Lutheran School. These pages contain class photos and other stuff related to St. Johns Lutheran Church and School. Thanks to the school office, I was able to get a lot of class pictures that I didn't have previously. I've listed all of the years I've scanned so far. Some of the years have details for each student, others just have the full class photo. Eventually, I hope to have names and larger photos for every individual in every class, but for now you'll have to make do with the smaller versions for most classes in most years. As you can see, there are many years for which I have no photos and many unidentified people in the photos I do have. If you have photos for other years or can help identify the unlabeled people in the photos, please contact me.
Henry Aschbrenner was the principal at St. John's Lutheran School in Napa for many years. Every year that I can remember, he would write up a class prophecy in story form for the graduating eighth-grade class. Here's the prophecy for the eighth grade class of 1976. Since Redwood Road has traffic lights now and most student are driven to school by their parents, the need for a Traffic Patrol isn't as great as it once was. Still, here's a picture of the 1975-76 Traffic Patrol at St. John's. Confirmation is an important milestone in Christian life at St. John's. I'm just starting to get confirmation photos scanned, but here are the first two: 1949 and 1976. St. John's Lutheran Church in Napa was founded on July 4, 1907 and will soon be celebrating its 100th anniversary. In preparation, a committee has been formed to work on a commemorative book. I volunteered to participate and have been busy scanning a lot of historical material. As time permits, I'll be posting it here or putting it on the church's web site and providing links to it. In the Fall of 2001, I taught a beginning web design class at St. John's. If you're looking for class notes, assignments and other material related to that class, it's here Things do tend to go full circle sometimes. My own children are attending St. John's now - the third generation in our family to do so. I've taken quite a few pictures over the years of St. John's field trips and other school events: Those pictures used to be posted here, but I've moved them all to the St. John's Lutheran school web site, which I currentl maintain. |
